Ensures efficient performance and supports network growth with optimal speed
Catalyst Switches are efficient and swift, which is valuable for my organization. I experience optimal speed and effective configuration, making them stand out compared to other switches. The PoE switches offer more ports on SFP, and it is efficient in use. Overall, the switches provide me with the value I expect in terms of speed and efficiency.

Reliable and useful for network segmentation
The solution's most valuable feature stands up well. The tool is reliable, and it stands up well. The solution works fine and lasts a long time. I think if you speak about the features that have a flow and you can measure, it is hard to say. I don't spend a lot of my time with the tool, but I know that Dell APEX is the solution's cloud. I would say the VLAN features are important. The VLAN features are really useful because network segmentation is important. I would say the tool is easy to program. I don't know if the tool has any security features that I am aware of other than the fact that the solution is for networking. The VLAN and the ability to segment your networks are easy, which is its security feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of this solution is managed switching."
"Their technical support is good, one of the best in the industry."
"The solution is stable."
"The platform significantly improved our organization by addressing latency issues in our network."
"The hardware and the security are the product's valuable features"
"I like the management of streaming both audio and video."
"The CLI is pretty much the same across all switching and routing platforms from Cisco, making deployment of new switches, replacement of damaged equipment, or upgrades to newer platforms very easy."
"The scalability is excellent."
"The features I've found most valuable are that the product is very easy to configure and inexpensive."
"The most valuable features are the jumbo frames and the stacking."
"The setup is straightforward. It takes minimum time for deployment."
"We have these switches installed in an environment with hardware from many other vendors, and so far, so good."
"The technology is good and the interface is simple. We haven't had any bugs, disconnections or delays."
"When the price is competitive the customers tend to choose the cheaper brand and then look at the features. So having a competitive price is a plus."
"PowerConnect Switches' stability is satisfactory."
"The most valuable feature of Dell PowerConnect Switches for me is the throughput. I also like that the product has more compatibility with Dell infrastructure, especially with EMC and new generation Dell servers. Dell PowerConnect Switches can also easily integrate with Dell servers, and this is another pro."

Cons

"Installing and configuring these switches requires the proper training."
"Price could be lower."
"The general price of the solution could be cheaper."
"The price is something we would definitely like improved. It would be nice if it was more economical."
"Its initial setup can be simpler, and it would be great if we can work with a reference architecture. Cisco has the capability to provide a very integrated solution. They have DNA Center, Cisco ISE, Cisco Prime, FMC, and AMP. We are looking at all the products, but it is rather complex to pick out the right licenses that you need. The license structure is a bit complex. Sometimes, there is an overlap in products, which does not really make sense. For example, you have DNA Center and Cisco Prime, and it is not really clear what you would use for what exactly. There is a lot of information on the Cisco website, but it takes a while to go through all this and look at the presentations that are available from Cisco Live. These presentations are appreciated, but sometimes, they are a bit too much like bullet points. You don't exactly know what's behind it, so you have to do a second guess. Overall, there is a lot of information but not always to the point."
"They need to simplify the Web GUI and make it easier to use, and more intuitive for the users."
"The solution could improve by adding a user-friendly GUI. We use third-party applications for log monitoring that are expensive and if Cisco could provide log monitoring as part of this solution it would be beneficial."
"The pricing could be better. Cisco is quite expensive."
"We've only been using the solution for half a year. We haven't run into any issues, but maybe over time, that may change. It's too soon to tell. Offhand, there aren't any features that are lacking."
"The solution could provide more integration to focus on targeting the network as a whole rather than a unified environment. It is meant for a built environment, so integration with other third-party vendors will likely be necessary."
"The product's infrastructure and connectivity features need improvement."
"More stable firmware releases would be an improvement because we have had them randomly power on and off."
"It would be great to have modules that integrate with SDN solutions such as Cisco ACI, Arista SDN, Huawei Agile, and IBM."
"The CLI for Dell PowerConnect Switches is sometimes confusing, especially with the LAN, but for the GUI it is simple."
"There should be more port options in this switch. Currently, it has 24 or 48 ports. However, some of our customers require only 8 ports, but I have to put a switch with 24 ports. They should provide smaller solutions and complimentary access point for companies like ours with a low quantity of work. The main issue with this product is branding. They should improve their branding and promote their brand more in Mexico. Customers are more aware of brands like Cisco as compared to Dell."
"A user can take care of the product's installation part, but it may not seem to be an easy process."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is expensive, even when compared to competitors' products."
"The price of these switches is on the upper end. It is around $3,500 plus for a 24-Port switch. These switches are more expensive than Linksys and TP-Links, but you get what you pay for. If you look at the pros and cons per switch, you can justify the cost compared to a lesser and cheaper brand."
"Cisco products are not that cheap."
"The price should go down instead of up. "
"Licensing is on a yearly basis. We usually spend up to $20,000."
"It has a very high cost, but understandably, due to its very good quality."
"We had to pay for the product’s licenses."
"Cisco Catalyst Switches is an expensive solution."
"I would rate the pricing as a seven or eight."
"The product has a low price for the features it provides."
"Its price is okay. Sometimes, it is lower than a Cisco solution."
"PowerConnect Switches are priced well."
"The initial cost was high but since they have lasted for over ten or twenty years they are worth it."
"Dell PowerConnect switches are cheaper than Cisco switches. Cisco's higher capacity switches (100 or 200 gigs) are super-expensive. With the higher capacity, the price of the switches and the price of the architecture go high. Dell is cheaper and modular. So, I don't need to invest 100% upfront. I can invest as I progress. That is an option because the chassis will not be populated with all the pluggables. I have a choice because it is modular. I can go for 25 gigs today, and after four months, I can go for 100 gigs, and after that, I can go for 200 gigs. I have a choice when it is not a fixed switch."
"Cheaper than its competitors"
"The solution is less expensive and more cost-efficient."
